Since 1994 Mike and Cindy Helvie have ministered as Global Partners' career missionaries. They first served in South Africa, working in theological education by extension and in church leadership development. In 2005 they were reassigned to Albania, a primarily Muslim country, where they worked in church planting. Mike and Cindy will now be returning to Africa. As of January 2008 they were assigned to ministry in Zambia.
Mike was born and raised in Logansport, Indiana. He earned a B.S. degree in Christian ministries from Indiana Wesleyan University. Cindy (Mortier) was born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Eugene, Oregon. She earned a B.S. degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University. They have both earned M.A. degrees in counseling from George Fox Evangelical Seminary.
At age 19 Mike sensed a call to missions, and Cindy felt her call to missions when she was 11. Mike and Cindy met at college, and together began to fulfill their call. They served in South Africa from 1992-1993 with the Wesleyan Gospel Corps.
Their vision for missionary service is to help people lead healthy lives and become whole so they may enable themselves, their families, and the their churches to experience and respond to God's grace.
The Helvies have two children: Eric and Melody. Eric is married to Megan and they have one son, Elliott.
